Acupuncture is perhaps most well known for its success in the treatment of pain. We specialize in treating sports injuries, migraines and headaches, sciatica, neck pain and low back pain, and elbow/wrist and hand pain, leg/knee and foot pain, and abdominal pain. Our practitioners have extra training in the area of "Acupuncture Orthopedics", treating most orthopedic or pain conditions and neurological conditions.

According to a National Institutes of Health panel, convened in November of 1997, clinical studies have shown that acupuncture is helpful in treating nausea caused by surgical anesthesia and cancer chemotherapy, dental pain after surgery, addiction, headaches, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial (connective tissue) pain, osteoarthritis, lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, asthma, and to assist in stroke rehabilitation. The World Health Organization lists more than 40 conditions for which acupuncture may be used.

Many Olympic athletes have acupuncture up to 3 times per day to help improve their performance and to prevent injury. Sports acupuncture helps athletes achieve better performance, prevents injury, and supports a quicker recovery from injury. All of our practitioners have specialized training in "Acupuncture Orthopedics" which has prepared our acupuncturists for the most challenging sports-related conditions and gets athletes back in action as fast as possible.

Conditions Athletes Suffer From Which Acupuncture Treats:
  • Tennis elbow
  • Pitcher’s shoulder
  • Golfer’s elbow
  • Shin splints
  • Ankle sprain
  • Low back strain
  • Trick knee
  • Tendonitis
  • And more...

Acupuncture, frequently combined with herbal medicine, has been used for centuries to treat infertility. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can stimulate ovarian and follicular function. Additionally, it is shown that acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining.

Acupuncture can be used to treat any type of fertility disorder including spasmed tubes. Acupuncture is often combined with herbs to treat:

  • Elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
  • Repeated pregnancy loss
  • Unexplained (idiopathic) infertility
  • Luteal phase defect
  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

At CBCA, Jeremy Linquist, L.Ac. specializes in male fertility issues. Jeremy states, "It is time that male fertility also be addressed as an important part of the overall fertility picture." Acupuncture Continuum, Inc. is the only clinic in town to have a male fertility acupuncture specialist.
According to Acupuncture Today, October, 2005, Vol. 06, Issue 10: "In many cultures, women are unfairly blamed for the inability of a sexually active couple to conceive. In reality, men suffer from infertility issues just as frequently as women. According to statistics from the National Infertility Association between 35 percent and 40 percent of infertility problems among couples are actually caused by male conditions. Several factors may be responsible for male infertility, including low sperm count, abnormal sperm shape and size, and reduced motility. Lifestyle, genetics, and physiological changes can also raise or lower male fertility levels, and can significantly affect a man's ability to produce offspring..."

A woman’s body goes through many cycles in the course of a lifetime. From the onset of puberty, pregnancy, and menopause, with many years of menstruation in between, a woman’s body is in a constant state of change. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine work to restore balance and overall vitality to women along any stage of their journey. Some of the more commonly treated conditions with Chinese medicine include:

  • Loss of menstrual flow
  • Irregular or painful menses
  • Heavy uterine bleeding
  • PMS
  • Infertility
  • Pregnancy-related conditions
  • Frequent miscarriage
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Osteoporosis
  • Reduces side effects of chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer

Acupuncture also treats most "internal conditions". An internal condition is one that is not caused by trauma to the body and not caused by virus, bacteria or fungus. Examples of internal conditions are:

  • Stress, anxiety and depression
  • Colds and flus
  • Allergies
  • Digestive disorders
  • Skin conditions
  • Urinary problems
  • Post-Stroke conditions
  • Bell’s Palsy

Chinese herbal formulas are the primary treatment for these conditions, but acupuncture is helpful, too. Acupuncturists licensed in the State of California have extensive training in both acupuncture AND Chinese herbal medicine. We have over 800 didactic hours of training in Chinese herbal medicine, not to mention many hours of herbal training in our internships and in other classes. CBCA has access to a large, extensive herbal pharmacy, and we can custom-blend formulas specifically for your needs.
